Argentina midfielder Esteban Cambiasso is out of Inter Milan’s final league match of the season against Parma on Sunday due to an ankle injury, Italian press reported on Monday.
The 27-year-old’s loss is a big blow to the leaders and champions who have been showing signs of cracking in the title run-in.
Two matches ago they looked stone-cold certainties to land a third straight title as they needed only three points from their final three games to be crowned champions.

Sparta Prague president Jozef Chovanec will have a double role to play for the remaining two games of the season as he takes over the manager’s job left vacant by the resignation of Michal Bilek.
Sparta suffered what could be a costly loss at home to Banik Ostrava on Saturday, a defeat which left them two points adrift of arch city rivals Slavia ahead of Saturday’s final day.
That prompted Bilek to tender his resignation, initially planned for the end of the season, with Chovanec stepping up to fill the vacancy.

Manchester United beat Wigan 2-0 on Sunday to clinch the club’s 17th English title.
A first-half penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo and a late strike by Ryan Giggs - on the day he equalled Bobby Charlton’s record of appearances for United - sealed the tenth title under manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
United finished two points clear of Chelsea, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Bolton at Stamford Bridge. Kevin Davies scored a late equaliser for Bolton after Andriy Shevchenko had given Chelsea the lead.

Celtic moved four points clear in the Scottish Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Hibernian in their final home game of the season on Sunday.
Captain Stephen McManus and Australian striker Scott McDonald scored in each half to secure the win for the SPL holders, who finish their campaign away to Dundee United.
Celtic’s win almost certainly ensures the championship will be decided on the final day of the season, with Rangers still having three games to play.

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti lauded his own team as they look to sew up a place in next season’s Champions League at their trip to Napoli on Sunday.
Ancelotti’s side have overturned a four-point gap to Fiorentina in the race for fourth place into a one-point lead over the last two weeks.
Milan thrashed Livorno 4-1 and then beat Inter 2-1 in the Milan derby last weekend. In the meantime, La Viola conceded an injury time equaliser against Sampdoria and then lost at Cagliari as they picked up only one point from six.

New coach Jurgen Klinsmann will be an interested observer when Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich face relegation-candidates Duisburg on Saturday as he looks to finalise his squad for next year.
After the title was won by Bayern last weekend, it only remains to be decided who will be playing in Europe next season or in the second division, but Klinsmann has been in Munich this week making plans.
With Ottmar Hitzfeld quitting as Bayern’s head coach this summer to take charge of the Swiss national side after Euro 2008, Klinsmann’s first day in charge is July 1 and he has yet to resolve several question marks hanging over the squad.

Rangers’ Charlie Adam hopes to help his side achieve the four Scottish Premier League wins needed to secure the title after making a quicker than expected return from injury.
The Ibrox side’s midfielder was expected to be ruled out until next season with a knee injury but played the final 15 minutes of Wednesday’s 1-0 victory at home to Motherwell.
And Adam now hopes to play his part in what could be an historic season for the club.
Four more SPL wins — starting against Dundee United on Saturday — would see Rangers lift the league championship.
