    Van Basten calms van der Vaart fears 

    RafaelNetherlands coach Marco van Basten insisted there was nothing to worry about after attacking midfielder Rafael van der Vaart missed training with an ankle injury.

    The Hamburg player was injured during training on Monday night at the team’s camp here, sparking fears the former Ajax man may have aggravated a previous problem.

    The 32-year-old Glasgow Rangers player has been playing with a cruciate ligament injury for the last year, but the Dutchman thinks the World Cup may be beyond him.

    Santa Cruz battling to be fit for England game

    Paraguay’s star striker Roque Santa Cruz is nearing full fitness from a injured right knee but is still unable to play a full part in training, the team doctor has said.

    The 24-year-old Bayern Munich player sustained a cruciate ligament injury to the joint in October last year and has been on the sidelines ever since.

    Ronaldo eyes playing future in US, but not just yet

    Brazilian striker Ronaldo said he could envisage playing in the United States in the future but was for the present focused only on his country’s defence of the World Cup.

    His agent Fabiano Farah said he had turned down a 120-million-dollar, 10-year deal for Ronaldo to play for the New York-based Red Bulls USA in Major League Soccer.
