Argentina unveil Basile as new coach
The Argentine Football Federation (AFA) has named Alfio Basile, currently at the helm of Boca Juniors, as the new coach of the national team.
Basile will take up his post from September 15, the federation said after striking a deal with Boca Juniors.
“I’m very proud to head the team again,” said Basile, who was national coach from 1991 through to the 1994 World Cup in the United States.
“I’m very motivated and I see the great quality of the players we have at our disposal.”
Basile, who picked up four trophies with Boca Juniors last season, takes over from Jose Pekerman, who quit following Argentina’s quarter-final elimination at the hands of hosts Germany on penalties in the World Cup.
