Cisse expecting to quit Liverpool before World Cup
Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse said he is hoping to settle his future before the World Cup amid speculation that he could return to French football.
Cisse has struggled to settle at English Premiership giants Liverpool since moving to Anfield in 2004 and had a strained relationship with coach Rafael Benitez this season.
Now the 24-year-old has acknowledged that his time in England could be drawing to a close, with Marseille, Lyon and Paris St Germain all believed to be in the running to land the French international forward.
“I want to sort out everything as quickly as possible, before the World Cup,” Cisse said at France’s training camp at Clairefontaine outside Paris.
“To bounce back, I am ready to make some sacrifices. I’m happy at Liverpool but I don’t get on with the coach. I think it’s going to be hard for me to stay there,” Cisse said.
Cisse said despite interest from French champions Lyon his preferred destination would be Marseille, even though they failed to qualify for Europe next season.
“Lyon are playing in the Champions League and they are more stable, but my heart says Marseille,” Cisse said.
