Euro 2008 over for referee Webb

Webb came under criticism after awarding Austria a late penalty English referee Howard Webb will not be kept on by Uefa for the knockout stages of Euro 2008.

Webb courted controversy in his opening game in charge after awarding co-hosts Austria a late penalty which allowed them to draw 1-1 against Poland.

It led to the Webb receiving death threats and fierce criticism, but Uefa subsequently handed him Wednesday’s Group C clash between Greece and Spain.

Despite that, he has not been awarded a game in the knockout stages.
