Alain Goma was among several players released by English Premiership side Fulham.

The 33-year-old French defender joined Facundo Sava, Robert Watkins, Neale McDermott, Adam Green and Richard De Villiers in leaving the west London club’s Craven Cottage home.

There had been speculation that Goma’s contract, which expires shortly, would be renewed but contract negotiations faltered.

Goma was Fulham’s record signing in 2001 when he agreed a 4 million pounds move from Newcastle but his career in London was interrupted by injuries.

“The club would like to thank all the players for their services and contributions and wishes them all the best for the future,” said a Fulham statement.

Fulham manager Chris Coleman has already made one signing ahead of next season, with Wigan playmaker Jimmy Bullard sealing a 2.5 million pounds move on Monday.

Coleman is hoping to bring in at least two more new faces with a permament deal with Wayne Bridge, who spent the second half of the season on loan from champions and near-neighbours Chelsea a target. But the England’s left-back’s 5 million pounds price tag could be prohibitive.

However, the sale of Steed Malbranque could raise funds with the 5 million pounds rated French midfielder going on the transfer list last weekend after failing to agree a contract extension.
