Hertha Berlin consider offer for erratic Marcelinho

German first division’s Hertha Berlin have received a formal transfer bid for their erratic Brazilian international Marcelinho.
“We have received a concrete offer,” general manager Dieter Hoeness said on the eve of the club’s third-round Intertoto Cup return leg match against Moscow FC.
Turkish first division side Trabzonspor, Russia’s CSKA Moscow, Spain’s Barcelona and Olympiakos in Greece are all believed to be tracking the midfielder whose five-year spell at Hertha has been dogged by controversy.
The 31-year-old, whose real name is Marcelo dos Santos, was recently forced to apologise to his Hertha team mates, officials and fans after extending his holidays in Brazil and turning up to pre-season training 10 days late.
After years of making excuses for the Brazilian, who has been carpeted in the past for returning home during the season without informing team officials, management’s patience appears to have worn thin.
In April last year, Marcelhino was involved in a fight with German international defender Arne Friedrich at half-time during a Bundesliga match.
Capped five times for Brazil, Marcelhino arrived at Hertha after an unremarkable season with French first division club Marseille in 2000/01.
