Is Walcott Petit?
17 is not a new thing to world cup, people with this age have been influential in many football world cups and other important leagues. While Maradona played at the age of 15, Beckham at the age of 16, Raul at age of 17, Pavel Nedved at age of 19 and the list goes on to say that all the best and famous players have made it big at such tender ages and proved that their energy is far more better and important and overshadows their inexperience.
All the controversy arises because of a comment given by Charlton who played for England’s wining side in 1966, he said taking Walcott to Germany is “maybe a bit too much to ask of the young player“. But coach Eriksson is pretty confident about his boy and supports him. Eriksson said: “Walcott is a huge talent and I think he’s mentally ready. I don’t think anyone expects him to come on against Brazil and score three goals but he deserves to be here.”
Walcott has been with Arsenal since January but hasn’t played yet. Well this is his big platform and he has been given a chance, most of the experts think he has no experience which could pull him back but Eriksson said, “I don’t think he has any fear – and why should he? He has nothing to lose, who knows? In the next World Cup, maybe he will start. He has fitted in off the pitch. He is a very steady boy. I don’t think he is worried at all about the World Cup. Before I picked him, we checked with Arsenal and other people what kind of boy he is. I don’t think he has any fear and why should he? He has nothing to lose. He was surprised to be picked like a lot of people were. He is here, he fits in and he is quick I can tell you. He is very quick.”
Well some resort to this as Eriksson going overboard but I guess the mere fact that Wayne could be playing world cup has give a mental stability to the team and coach, of which they deny . Eriksson is positive and optimistic about England’s world cup performance is quite confident about its progress.
And this was typically seen in his comments, “For a huge football country like England it is a little bit sad to know that it is 40 years since we last won a big tournament – and it’s time to do it now, it is a dream among all of us and I think we can do it. The players believe today they can win it. They did not believe that four years ago – not in this way anyway.”
Well England’s team has been in speculations always due to Rooney’s injury or Walcott’s inexperience but I guess if the coach is confident it wont be blindly on thoughts but might be he knows that his boys are right and ready for action.
