Ronaldo wants ‘dream’ Real move

Ronaldo scored 42 goals for Man Utd last seasonCristiano Ronaldo says he hopes to “complete his dream” of moving to Real Madrid, despite Manchester United insisting he is “not for sale”.

The European champions said on Friday: “We are not listening to offers.”

But the Portugal winger, 23, has signalled his intention to “take advantage of a great opportunity”.

“Everybody knows what I want but things don’t only depend on me,” he said. “I am not the person who decides but I hope to complete my dream.”

Ronaldo stated that he made up his mind before the Champions League final that he wanted to leave United for Real.

Blues slated over Scolari timing

Scolari’s five-year reign as Portugal boss ended in a quarter-final defeat by Germany on Thursday.

FPF chief Gilberto Madail is unhappy Chelsea revealed his appointment just four days into the tournament.

“I wish Chelsea would have consulted us before so that we could have chosen a better time,” said the FPF president.

Portugal had high hopes of going all the way at Euro 2008, having reached the final in 2004 and the World Cup semi-finals in 2006.

Germany beat lacklustre Portugal

Germany beat lacklustre PortugalGermany booked their place in the semi-finals of Euro 2008 by seeing off a below-par Portugal side in Basel.

Bastian Schweinsteiger sidefooted in the first and his free-kick created the second for the head of Miroslav Klose.

Nuno Gomes finished from close range to give Portugal hope, but they failed to defend another Schweinsteiger free-kick and Michael Ballack headed their third.

Portugal substitute Helder Postiga pulled one back in the dying stages but there was to be no grandstand finish.

Portugal had looked so impressive in qualifying for the knockout stages but Luiz Felipe Scolari’s reign ended in disappointing fashion.

Greece 1-2 Spain

Guiza ensured a miserable ending for the GreeksSpain made it three wins out of three at Euro 2008 as Greece bowed out of the tournament with defeat in Salzburg.

Defending champions Greece took the lead when Angelos Charisteas headed home a Giorgios Karagounis free-kick.

Spain levelled when Ruben De la Red thundered a shot in off the underside of the crossbar.

And the Spanish kept up their 100% record when Daniel Guiza headed in a late winner from a Sergio Garcia cross to continue Greece’s misery.

Euro 2008 over for referee Webb

Webb came under criticism after awarding Austria a late penalty English referee Howard Webb will not be kept on by Uefa for the knockout stages of Euro 2008.

Webb courted controversy in his opening game in charge after awarding co-hosts Austria a late penalty which allowed them to draw 1-1 against Poland.

It led to the Webb receiving death threats and fierce criticism, but Uefa subsequently handed him Wednesday’s Group C clash between Greece and Spain.

Despite that, he has not been awarded a game in the knockout stages.

Real waiting for Ronaldo signal

Ronaldo is currently concentrating on Portugal's Euro 2008 bidReal Madrid have confirmed they are waiting for Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo to reveal his intentions over where his future lies.

The Premier League champions want to keep the Portugal captain, whose contract at Old Trafford runs to 2012.

But the 23-year-old will not decide on his future until after Euro 2008.

“As soon as he says he wants to play for Real Madrid, there will be conversations,” Madrid official Miguel Angel Arroyo told newspaper Marca.

Russia secure quarter-final place

Russia secure quarter-final placeRussia beat Sweden in Innsbruck to set up a clash with coach Guus Hiddink’s native country the Netherlands in the last eight of Euro 2008.

Andrei Arshavin, playing his first game of the tournament after suspension, inspired a superb attacking display.

He was involved as Aleksandr Anyukov set up Roman Pavlyuchenko for a close-range finish after 24 minutes.

And Arshavin then started and finished a sweeping move to slide home Yuri Zhirkov’s pass in the 50th minute.

Russia exerted almost total domination and also struck the woodwork through Pavlyuchenko and Konstantin Zyryanov as they threatened to rack up a more emphatic victory margin.
