Parreira installed as South Africa coach for 2010: SAFA chief
Former Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has agreed a deal to take charge of South Africa as the 2010 World Cup hosts begin their long build-up to the finals, officials said.
South African Football Association President Molephi Oliphant said Parreira had signed a contract after meeting with a delegation from the southern African nation in Rio de Janeiro.
“I’ve got a call from our delegation that went to Brazil last night… informing me that they have signed the deal,” Oliphant told the SABC public radio on Saturday.
No details on the length of the contract or the amount Parreira will be paid were available but reports have said the Brazilian will be given a four-year deal worth 100 million rand (11.4 million euros/14.5 million dollars).
Parreira, who resigned as Brazil coach following the team’s disappointing quarter-finals exit at the hands of France at the World Cup in Germany, is expected to be in Johannesburg in the next two weeks.
The veteran coach guided Brazil to glory at USA 94 and has coached Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia at other World Cups.
