Sionko starts Czech World Cup training

Libor Sionko, who was drafted into the Czech Republic World Cup squad as cover for Vladimir Smicer, trained for the first time at the team’s base at Seefeld, Austria.
“I am here to be ready in case of necessity,” the 29-year-old Sionko — who recently signed for Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers from Austria Vienna — told the CTK news agency on Thursday.
Smicer’s participation in the World Cup in Germany became even more questionable on Tuesday after he suffered a fresh injury during training with the squad at the Austrian mountain resort.
Smicer, who turned 33 on Wednesday, has been sidelined since February, when he picked up a thigh injury playing for French first division club Bordeaux.
During shooting practice on Tuesday he suffered a blood clot in his left leg.
