Veron facing two-year jail term

An Italian court has recommended a two-year jail term for former Argentina international Juan Sebastian Veron who is accused of illegally obtaining an Italian passport.
Former Lazio player Veron, and six others including former Lazio president Sergio Cragnotti, have been prosecuted for irregularities in Veron obtaining his passport on September 9 1999.
Cragnotti is also facing a possible two-year jail term following the prosecutors’ recommendations. The trial resumes on January 12.
Veron spent seven years playing in Italy with Sampdoria (1996-98), Parma (1998-99), Lazio (1999-2001) and Inter Milan (2004-06).
He also played for Manchester United and Chelsea in the English Premiership from 2001-2004 but at the end of last season returned to Argentina to re-sign for his first club Estudiantes de la Plata.
