Wigan have rejected a bid from West Ham

Chimbonda

Wigan have rejected a bid from English Premiership rivals West Ham for Pascal Chimbonda.

Latics manager Paul Jewell described the offer, worth a reported four million pounds (7.3 million dollars), as “not enough”, with the club apparently determined to hold out for the six million pounds (10.9 million dollars) they are demanding for the French right-back.

Chimbonda, 27, asked for a transfer at the end of last season after having made a big impact in his first campaign at the JJB Stadium.

The right-back’s impressive form following his 500,000 pounds (917,000 dollars) switch from Bastia last summer earned him a shock call-up to the French World Cup squad, where he has understudied first-choice Willy Sagnol.

Chimbonda has previously been courted by Tottenham, only for Wigan to turn down offers of 2.5 million pounds and three million pounds (4.5-5.5 million dollars) from the north London club following a shock transfer request on the final day of last season.
